Legal Assistant College Program

<empty>

The legal assistant program provides you with the training and skills you need for an important job in today’s busy legal profession. Lawyers are often assisted in their work by legal assistants, who perform many of the same tasks as lawyers, except those considered to be the practice of law.

As a legal assistant student, you will learn the day-to-day procedures of running a busy law office, including correct operating procedures of office equipment most frequently found in today’s automated law office. Word processing and machine transcription skills are also important to today’s assistant and are an integral part of the program. The additional training in Career Development near the end of the program gives you the skills you need to find that first important job and then shows you how to advance in your career choice.

A growing number of legal assistants are using computers in their work. Computer software packages are increasingly used to search documents stored in the computer to identify texts relevant to a specific court case. Most of their work is performed in their office. However, some duties require outside travel to law libraries for research, visits to clients’ offices, and trial work in public court.
