Centura College began enrolling in its new Professional Esthetician program in September, with a starting class of 36 students. The Professional Esthetician diploma program provides students with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary to gain entry‐level positions as a licensed esthetician in salons, dermatology offices, and beauty, health, and medical spas.

While in school, students learn the fundamentals of skincare, anatomy, and physiology as it pertains to the esthetics field, safety, health screening, and skincare analysis. Students gain the skills necessary to perform make‐up applications for general and special occasions, lash application, tinting, perming, and hair removal, as well as manual and machine facials. Additionally, students learn various body treatments including body wraps, masks, scrubs, and aromatherapy. The education and training objectives in the Professional Esthetician program allow students the opportunity to take the practical and theory exams for estheticians with the Virginia Board for Barbers and Cosmetology Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation.

“Centura College is dedicated to working with the Professional Esthetician community to help meet the demand for Estheticians in Chesapeake and throughout Hampton Roads. We spent several months speaking with industry leaders and developed this 8‐month program with employers in mind,” said Mike Bragg, Campus Executive Director.

“Atticus Franchise Group is delighted to see Centura open up this beautiful new wing focused on training estheticians,” said Cassie Binder, District Manager of the local Massage Envy franchises. “With more Americans embracing health and wellness, the job outlook for estheticians is strong. Massage Envy locations here in Virginia are always looking for qualified
professionals. We look forward to Centura graduating estheticians, so they can achieve their career goals while helping others.”

The campus will host a Ribbon Cutting ceremony on October 27th at 10 am with special guest speakers, including keynote speaker Mayor Rick West, a representative from skincare company Jan Marini, and area employers. Following the Ribbon Cutting, the campus invites the public to tour the campus and to enjoy chair massages and refreshments from 11:30 to 1:00 pm at 932 Ventures Way in Chesapeake, Virginia.
