How to Pay For My College Education

How to Pay For My College Education

Now that you’ve found the right school for your educational needs and you know what career you want to train for, now you have to find a way to fund your college education.  The next step is to visit the Financial Aid Department and talk to them about applying for financial aid, if you qualify.  Beyond financial aid, there are other options available to help you defray the costs of a college education and they can help you figure out the answer to the question; “How to Pay for My College Education?”

Some of the ways to help pay for a college education (if you qualify):

  • Federal Pell Grants
  • Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants
  • Federal Family Educational Loan Programs
  • Federal Subsidized Stafford Loans
  • PLUS Loans
  • Military Tuition Assistance
  • Veteran Benefits
  • Rehabilitative Services
  • Veteran Survivors Benefits
  • Scholarships

Are Scholarships right for you?

Scholarships are a great thing and they can vary widely depending on the type of scholarship and the sponsor.  Some scholarships may require work on your part in the form of an application and documentation, though not as much as you might think.  Seek out scholarship opportunities online using the search engines and educational resource websites available to everyone.  You might be surprised to learn how many websites are out there just waiting to help you find a scholarship that fits you.

“With the largest database of scholarships online and a speedy scholarship matching tool, helps students find scholarships that are most relevant to their background, field of study, sport, skill, interest, achievement, or other attribute. Whether you’re in grad school or were just accepted into college, we’ll have a match for you.” – from the website, Home Page.

Some words of caution though when searching the internet, beware any site that asks you for money. There are reported cases of companies calling consumers, claiming to be with the U.S. Department of Education and offering scholarships and grants.  They will ask for bank or credit card numbers to process a $249 fee. Don’t give your financial information to anyone over the phone without checking them out first!  As we said earlier, you should not have to pay a fee to apply for scholarships and the Federal grant programs are free to apply for to as well.
