Scholarships are a great thing and they can vary widely depending on the type of scholarship and the sponsor.  Some scholarships may require work on your part in the form of an application and documentation, though not as much as you might think.  Seek out scholarship opportunities online using the search engines and educational resource websites available to everyone.  You might be surprised to learn how many websites are out there just waiting to help you find a scholarship that fits you.

Some words of caution though when searching the internet, beware any site that asks you for money. There are reported cases of companies calling consumers, claiming to be with the U.S. Department of Education and offering scholarships and grants.  They will ask for bank or credit card numbers to process a $249 fee. Don’t give your financial information to anyone over the phone without checking them out first!  As we said earlier, you should not have to pay a fee to apply for scholarships and the Federal grant programs are free to apply for to as well.
