About our Dental Expanded Functions Diploma
The Dental Expanded Functions diploma program prepares students for entry-level employment in the dental field. The program provides the student with the knowledge and skills to become employed as a dental assistant with expanded functions knowledge and skills for working in dental offices, private and government hospitals, state and local public dental departments, dental schools, and dental clinics. While in school, students will learn the fundamentals expanded functions, which will prepare the student to perform chair side assistant duties in all phases of restorative, prosthodontic, and cementation treatment as provided in general dentistry.
The healthcare industry desires the professional and dental skills of our graduates along with interpersonal soft skills that we teach within the program. The program concludes with a Practicum experience. The practicum experience prepares the student for the dental assistant two licensure. Upon successful completion of program requirements, students will receive a Dental Expanded Functions diploma. Students are eligible to become certified and become employed in positions that are related to the educational and training objectives of a dental expanded functions program. Additionally, students will be eligible to apply for Dental Assistants II licensure with the Virginia Board of Dentistry.
