Power Up Your Community with an Electrical Lineworker Certificate

This 15-week program focuses on learning electrical fundamentals, identifying and minimizing jobsite hazards, and safely performing tasks in the field. You can also practice testing circuits, using specialized equipment, and handling emergency scenarios. Whether using specialized equipment or performing tasks at heights above 32 feet, you can learn the techniques and safety protocols professionals use in the field each day at Centura.

Get the Inside Scoop on Electrical Linework

Learn to think like a lineworker, safely get the job done, and work efficiently as part of a team by learning:

  • Electrical theory
  • Power line worker safety
  • CPR
  • Aerial framing
  • Trenching, excavating, and boring equipment
  • Safe operating protocols for bucket trucks, digger derricks, crane trucks, and aerial lifts
  • Setting and pulling poles

PROGRAM DURATION AND CONTENT: YOUR ROADMAP TO ELECTRICAL LINEWORKER SUCCESS

In just 15 weeks, our Electrical Lineworker program offers 15 credits through 3 courses including:

  • Power Industry and Electrical Fundamentals

  •  Utility Climbing Techniques

  • Power Line Equipment and Field Operations

Power Industry and Electrical Fundamentals

This course introduces the foundational knowledge and hands-on skills needed to begin training for a career in the power industry. You’ll explore core electrical concepts like Ohm’s Law, voltage, current, and resistance, while also learning to read schematics and safely handle electrical equipment. Through real-world exercises and classroom instruction, you’ll practice hazard recognition, proper PPE use, and safe work practices in high-voltage environments. This course also includes prep for OSHA 10-Hour certification.

Topics covered include:
  • Work zone safety and traffic control
  • Common electrical hazard identification and mitigation
  • Voltage, current, and resistance measurements
  • Construction math and geometry
  • High-voltage work safety practices
  • Communication, teamwork, and jobsite professionalism
  • Common construction knots and material handling skills

 Utility Climbing Techniques

In this course, you’ll learn how to safely climb and work on utility poles and steel structures while mastering the tools, techniques, and physical demands of life at height. Whether performing pole-top rescues, navigating lateral movements, or climbing towers, this training builds your confidence in multiple scenarios. CPR, First Aid, and Bloodborne Pathogen training are also included.

Topics covered include:
  • Inspection and use of climbing gear and safety equipment
  • Lateral positioning and safe ascent/descent techniques
  • Climbing route planning and hazard identification
  • Pole and structure inspections prior to climbing
  • Pole-top rescue procedures (with and without cross arms)
  • First Aid, CPR, and Bloodborne Pathogen training

Power Line Equipment and Field Operations

In this final course, you’ll apply what you’ve learned to essential field operations used in the power utility industry. Practice aerial framing, pole setting, rigging techniques, and equipment selection for real-world job sites. You’ll also gain hands-on experience with trenching and excavation tools, and develop proficiency with electrical test instruments.

  • Electrical test equipment basics and selection
  • Setting and pulling poles
  • Trenching, excavating, and boring safety guidelines
  • Safety practices and procedures for rigging work

Students enrolling in our Electrical Lineworker program must:

  • Be 18 or older or have an approved cosigner if under 18
  • Have a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent
